To rebuild the midfield, Liverpool has successfully signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. Having acquired an Argentine midfielder who can play either up top or in the volante, as well as a player who can invigorate the attack up front, all that remains is a defensive midfielder who is as good as he is physical.
In addition to Khéphren Thuram, a French U-21 midfielder who has long been reported to be interested, the club is now looking at Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, who was relegated from the Premier League.According to Fabrizio Romano, Southampton is demanding £50m.

Liverpool remain keen on signing Lavia, on list with Thuram.
Arsenal, still very interested — but it depends on Thomas exit.

Manu Koné and Gabri Veiga, who have been similarly rumored to be interested, are likely off the list. Both Thuram and Lavia are well endowed with good physique and strong physicality. They can do a good job in front of the final line to nip an attack in the bud.
However, while the Belgian midfielder looks more poised, the France U-21 midfielder may be more suited to a position one row further forward. He sometimes runs up front and is involved in the play inside the penalty area. He is similar to former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wynaldum and looks like a taller version of the Dutch midfielder.
The transfer fee is not much different for either, but with Southampton relegated, there seems to be a lot of room for negotiation. Arsenal is also interested, but it depends on the departure of Thomas. If they move quickly, they will have the advantage of being able to negotiate with no rivals.
Which player will Liverpool bring in to reinforce their third midfield player?
