Young Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg joined Liverpool from Zwolle after being spotted for his potential in 2019. In his first season, he got a chance in the first team, but gradually his time at Liverpool ran out and he went on loan.
After a year and six-month loan at Preston North End, he joined Schalke on a season-long loan last season. Injuries, however, meant that he only made nine appearances in the Bundesliga. The club was relegated from the top flight, but there have been rumors of another loan to Schalke.
Despite the lack of playing time, the talent was noticed by Mainz, who finished ninth in the Bundesliga last season. According to Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, the club is in pole position and is expected to discuss a permanent transfer or a loan move.

Liverpool has already given the player permission to negotiate with other clubs and was spotted at the Frankfurt airport. Two other German clubs are also interested and now in Germany to negotiate with each club.
After missing most of last season due to injury, the Dutch U-21 defender has failed to make an appearance in the Premier League and played only four cup games for the first team.
Can he turn his career around in Germany once again?
