Liverpool, who suffered from a poor season last year and were even in jeopardy of qualifying for the Europa League in the middle of the season, made a threatening comeback in the final stages to finish 5th in the Premier League, ahead of Brighton.
Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League, ahead of Brighton, and qualified for the Europa League.
In the new season, Liverpool made reinforcements in an effort to once again be in contention for the championship.
However, a number of leadership players left the club, including James Milner and Jordan Henderson, and Fabinho will soon be leaving Anfield.
This marks the end of Jurgen Klopp’s first regime, not only in midfield, but in every sense of the word.
Former Liverpool and former Netherlands international Ryan Babel said he is looking forward to the German’s leadership, although he insists that there is still work to be done as reinforcements are being made in preparation for his departure.
“I think there’s still a lot of work to do but again, I’m a Liverpool fan, I have good hopes. I trust Jurgen Klopp. I know that he knows last season was of course not good enough, so this season they definitely have to step it up.”
