After releasing Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia in quick succession, Liverpool is looking for an anchor man who can handle the bottom of midfield.
They are concentrating on Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, who played all season in the Premier League last season, and have submitted three offers for him.
The asking price is £50 million. The Saints are adamant that they will not sell for less than that, and negotiations have stalled with Liverpool’s offer also not being met. He has been on the bench but has not played as the Championship begins, and a move is inevitable.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea, who have been interested in the player for some time, have entered the fray in earnest, offering £48 million, more than Liverpool, although not quite the asking price.
“Chelsea have submitted formal bid to Southampton for Roméo Lavia worth £48m fee.”
“Negotiations ongoing between clubs as Liverpool last proposal was worth £45m and rejected.”

Chelsea, who had been going all out for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, have not been able to come to terms on a transfer fee and negotiations are not moving forward. There is a gap in the asking price, and there is a possibility that the target has changed.
Which club will the Belgian midfielder, whose reputation continues to grow in England, join?
