James Milner and other mainstay midfielders left Anfield as their contracts expired. With the average age of the team increasing, Liverpool pushed for a generational change in the transfer market this summer, acquiring Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
With the unexpected departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, reinforcements are not yet over for Liverpool in its pursuit of a new defensive midfielder. They are also interested in a left-handed center back and are moving toward a new era.
Under Jurgen Klopp’s regime so far, the front three has been a goal-scoring machine, while the number of goals scored by the midfielders has been less of a concern.
However, title contending clubs such as Manchester City, Arsenal, and Manchester United have midfielders with high scoring ability.
Liverpool is also looking to increase its attacking power from the midfield, and the Hungarian midfielder, who also has scoring ability, is a prime example.
The player, who was suddenly transferred from RB Leipzig, revealed how he felt the moment he heard of the interest, but also talked about his abundance in the new season.
“(Cristiano) Ronaldo was my idol but I’d also watch games of Liverpool and other teams. Gerrard was one of the biggest players when I was growing up.
“Now to wear the No 8 is a pleasure and makes me feel proud. But I want to do it my own way.
“The manager is an emotional guy. He puts everything that he has into things and wants us to do the same. If we all do that, then we can reach for the highest honours.
“Of course, everybody wants to play in the Champions League, but I didn’t think about that when I heard Liverpool wanted to sign me. You have to work for it. I wasn’t thinking about the Champions League at all. All I want to do now is make sure we get back there — where we should be.”
