Liverpool was working on acquiring a left-handed center back in addition to revamping its midfielders during this summer’s transfer market. Chelsea defender Levi Colwill was seen as the highest priority, but he has renewed his contract with his club.
Various other center back names were discussed, but none were acquired. Nevertheless, the team is expected to make moves to secure a center back in the transfer market this winter or next summer, as strengthening the final line is inevitable.
One of the candidates, Portuguese defender Gonzalo Inácio of Sporting, is also of interest to Liverpool, but the player is also being watched by big clubs. An agreement with Real Madrid was also reported, but Fabrizio Romano has denied the reports.
“Real Madrid have not agreed any deal to sign Gonçalo Inácio at this stage. No confirmation on €60m deal from Sporting for January.”
“Talented left footed CB monitored by many top clubs including United, Liverpool, Newcastle.”
