Jurgen Klopp has led Liverpool since October 2015 and has lifted numerous trophies including the Premier League, Champions League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup. It has been announced that he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the season, and a search is underway for his successor.
The most likely candidate is Xabi Alonso, who took over Bayer Leverkusen midway through last season and has turned the team around in a year and a half, dominating the Bundesliga so far.
His skills have attracted the interest of many clubs, and Bayern Munich, the club from which Thomas Tuchel is leaving, is also interested in signing him.
Footmercato’s Santi Aouna also confirms that he is the first choice of both clubs, while Liverpool is preparing a second offer soon.
“Nothing has changed: Xabi Alonso is at the top of Liverpool and Bayern Munich for next season”
“Liverpool made a first approach to Xabi Alonso who is keen on a move in England”
“The Reds are ready to send a bid to Leverkusen in the next weeks”
