Since Michael Edwards left his position as sporting director, Liverpool has been in turmoil, with management changes and the announcement of Jurgen Klopp’s retirement.
Julian Ward quit the position jutst after one year, and Jorg Schmatke left the team just as the transfer window closed this winter after only six months in the position.
Liverpool, which continues to search for a new sporting director along with a new head coach, has identified Richard Hughes, technical director at Bournemouth, as one of the candidates, who could head the reinforcement department for the new chapter of the club’s history.
According to Fabrizio Romano, an Italian journalist whose the future has been discussed, he will leave his current club at the end of this season. He is the most likely candidate to be Liverpool’s next SD, he said.
“Official: Bournemouth confirm that Richard Hughes will depart his position as first-team technical director at the end of the season.”
“Hughes remains one of the main names appreciated by Liverpool among other candidates.”

He was involved in the signings of Dutch defender Nathan Ake, English forward Callum Wilson, and English defender Tyrone Mings, and was also instrumental in the signing of 25-year-old defender Lloyd Kelly, who is also rumored to be of interest to Liverpool.
The club has excelled in acquiring players with high potential within a budget that is not necessarily plentiful, and is in line with Liverpool’s policy of reinforcement.
The size of the club is different, and the environment is very different, but will Richard Hughes take the lead in reinforcements at Anfield from next season onward?
