Regular class midfielders such as James Milner and Naby Keita left Liverpool without renewing their contracts. In addition, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho were contacted by the Saudis and, although it was not initially expected, some key midfielders also left the club.
Aiming for a major revamp of the midfielders, whose average age was also rising, Liverpool brought four players into the team, including Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. They became mainstays of the team early in the season and recovered from last season’s slump.
In last summer’s transfer market, where every possible midfielder name came and went, Liverpool also targeted Gabri Veiga, then a midfielder in Celta’s Spanish Under-21 team, with Arsenal and Chelsea also showing interest.
Ultimately, he decided to join Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia, a decision that came as a surprise at the age of 21, but he looks back on it and insists that he was able to make the right decision in the face of all the interest.
