In January 2022, Colombian international Luis Diaz joined Liverpool from Porto, and right from the start he showed such a high level of coordination that it was almost as if he had been in the team before, and kept coming close to scoring goals with other forwards.
His defensive contributions were not forgotten either, and his hard work in getting back showed his for-the-team spirit. In addition to his excellent technique, his dribbling skills enabled him to cut down the opposition defence from the left wing. He has already played more than 40 games this season and has reached double-digit goals throughout all competitions.
According to HITC, the 27-year-old winger, who has become an indispensable asset in Jurgen Klopp’s regime, has apparently requested a new contract from the club, despite the fact that he has until June 2027 left on his contract, and has requested improved terms.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are said to be perplexed by the timing of the request, with more than three years left on his contract. It is also reported that Liverpool do not have a good impression of the request at this time of the season, when interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona has been reported.
However, the club have been impressed with the Colombian international’s performances and are open to talks about renewing his contract. Although it is not their top priority at the moment, they are willing to sit down with the player’s side for negotiations this summer.
His dribbling penetration is highly regarded, but his ability to shoot from near the penalty area has been questioned. He makes spectacular shots, but often misses the decisive shot in easy situations, such as from the front. Together with Darwin Nunez, his decision-making ability is in urgent need of improvement.
A new coach will be appointed this summer and a team reshuffle is possible. To be honest, it is unlikely that the player will be sold, but where does the future lie for the former Porto winger…?
