Jurgen Klopp, who was expected to lead the club at Anfield until 2026, suddenly announced that he would step down at the end of the season.
The team had apparently been informed at the end of last year, and Liverpool have put together a list of young managers who could succeed the great German in charge. Among the most notable was Xabi Alonso, who played for Liverpool as a player and is a popular supporter favourite, but has officially announced that he will remain at Leverkusen beyond next season.
Sporting’s Ruben Amorim has been reported daily as a “big favourite”. Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepúlveda, who has reported on the manager and Liverpool in the past, has declared that rumours of interest in other candidates, including Roberto de Zerbi, are all fake news.
