With Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker, one of the top five goalkeepers not only in the Premier League but in the world, Liverpool’s strongest second choice on the bench is Irish goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher.
Last season, he was rarely available, partly due to the team’s poor form, but this season the regular keeper is out injured. During that period, he became a regular goalmouth defender and put in consistent performances and showed top class goalkeeping, stopping the decider on numerous occasions. However, he has recently been linked with a possible move away from Anfield whenever the transfer window opens.
Brighton and Brentford were among the clubs interested last summer, while Nottingham Forest made an offer this winter. Celtic from Scotland are also following developments.
The player is already 25 years old and it is no surprise that he would be willing to move to a club where he can play every weekend. According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are ready to allow the Irish goalkeeper to leave the team in the transfer market this summer without standing in the way of his career.
He has only made 47 appearances for Liverpool, which is too few games in view of the number of years he has been with the club, having been promoted to the first team in 2019. He may step up to the challenge at a new club in order to become an undeniable regular in the national team.
However, he has a contract remaining until 2026 and cannot be released for a discounted fee.
Depending on how many clubs are willing to offer Liverpool the amount of money they are looking for, will the 25-year-old goalkeeper finally transform from a reserve goalkeeper to the No.1 goalkeeper…?
