After drawing away to Manchester United, they lost a midweek Europa League game to Atalanta at Anfield.Liverpool then suffered an unexpected defeat in the Premier League against Crystal Palace, also at home, and had a difficult few weeks.
Having also been eliminated from the Europa League, the only title they can currently aim for is the Premier League. It’s a shortfall from where they were temporarily aiming for a fourth title, but they want to get to the top of the English table in Jurgen Klopp’s final season in charge.
Liverpool wanted to get a whitewash to get back on track at all costs, so they took on Fulham away from home. They controlled the game from the start and scored three goals overall to win comfortably for the first time in a long time.
The German captain was in a good mood and praised his team’s performance after getting the ‘three’ points he needed to keep them in the title race.
“I said before the game that I hate thinking about the game after the game [in front of us], but that’s how it is,”
“We play in another three days so let’s see who lines up there.”
“For 80 minutes we played a really good game,”
“I didn’t like the last 10 minutes of the first half and they got the goal. But that’s alright because I loved the second half.”
“We could show again what we did really well in the first half – we kept the ball, created, and scored some good goals. We had some good chances on top of that too. We made some changes and the boys did really well.”
