Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp stepping down as manager, is also moving towards a new era. Michael Edwards returns and a new sporting director is brought in from Bournemouth. The coaching staff has also undergone a major reshuffle and the team is being transformed into a new team.
After revamping their midfielders last summer, Liverpool are looking to strengthen their centre-backs and attackers during this summer’s transfer window. They will also begin a generational change in the final line, while stimulating a forward line that has seen a sharp drop in decision-making over the second half of the season.
Fabrizio Romano, a well-informed transfer expert, predicted a busy summer for Liverpool and said they would bring in two or three new players.
“It could be busy, I think it could be busy, a new centre-back for sure, they are working on that already. So a new centre-back and I think something in the offensive positions.”
”I expect Liverpool to complete something like two or three signings this summer,”
The Debrief
A great variety of targets have emerged, making it difficult to pinpoint the main one. There is also interest in attacking midfielders, in addition to front-line players such as centre-forwards and wingers, and it seems likely that existing players will leave or be converted.
In any case, it is a time of mixed information on transfers, and no one knows how credible any of it is. In some cases it is simple gossip, in others it is a scoop later on.
So which players will Liverpool be looking ahead to next season, and which will they actually pull off…?
