Jurgen Klopp, the manager who has successfully revived Liverpool, will leave the team at the end of the season. With a new regime in place and new formations and appointments possibly being introduced, plans for reinforcements for this summer’s transfer market are steadily underway.
Countless targets have surfaced and disappeared in the media, and it remains difficult to know which candidates Liverpool are really after. Nevertheless, new candidates are being mentioned incessantly, with Arne Slot’s current club, Feyenoord, plotting to pull him out.
According to Football Insider, the Reds are interested in a double capture of Dutch midfielder Mats Wieffer and Dutch defender Lutsharel Geertruida, and could make a move in the next transfer window.
The 24-year-old midfielder from Borné joined the club from Excelsior in 2022. He has scored nine goals and provided 11 assists in 79 games for Feyenoord and has also made nine appearances for the Dutch national team. He has also started most of the Eredivisie and Champions League games this season.
Born in Rotterdam, the 23-year-old defender has been developing in the club’s lower divisions since 2012 and made his first-team debut in 2018. Since then, he has scored 23 goals and provided 11 assists in 196 games, mainly at right-back, where he has been successful in a number of games.
The Dutch manager will have no problem attracting players from his home country, but with three players already in the squad – Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Hrafenberg – it could be both an advantage and a disadvantage to have a larger number of non-local players.
