Brazilian midfielder Fabinho left Anfield last summer.Promising young talents such as Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia were in the papers to take his place, but both decided to go to Chelsea.
He struggled at the start of the season, but quickly adapted with his wealth of experience and became an integral part of the team from mid-season onwards. However, he is already 31 years old and not part of the long-term plan, and many in the media are crying out for a defensive midfielder who can support the Arne Slot regime for a long time.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, Liverpool have also decided to join the battle for Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimarães, with Manchester City and Arsenal also interested.
The Brazilian midfielder, who is said to have a €115 million release clause in his contract, continues to prove his worth every season in the Premier League.
He has excellent body balance, is able to hold his own in physical battles, and retains the vision and passing ability to break the deadlock in difficult situations with the right pass.
He is one of England’s top midfielders and, at 26 years of age, can compete regularly with Japan’s midfielders and be a mainstay in the mid to long term. He has spent two and a half years at Newcastle and it is no surprise that he is considering a step up to a stronger club.
Aside from Manchester City and Arsenal, Liverpool cannot afford to pay a release fee. Other centre-backs and attackers would have to be acquired, limiting the amount of money that could be spent on a defensive midfielder.
Is there really a world line in which Liverpool would be prepared to pay a lot of money for a player in a non-priority position…?
