Last summer, Liverpool tried to contact Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, who was in talks to extend his contract, for a left-footed centre-back. As a result, he signed a new contract with the London club and no longer went to Anfield.
Liverpool were unable to even land a defender, but this summer they began to secure one in earnest. Despite rumours of interest in a right-back to replace Joel Matip, new manager Arne Slot’s priority is a versatile left-back defender, and he continues to look at the player, according to Daily Mail reporter Kieran Gill.
“Liverpool like Levi Colwill – Arne Slot is chasing a versatile left-footed defender – but Chelsea want 21-year-old academy graduate to stay this summer. Contracted until 2029 with option of a further year.”

The England defender, who can also play at left-back, has made 32 appearances this season.Although he did not see the pitch towards the end of the season due to injury, his potential is one of the best in the Premier League and he is a valuable asset for any club.
He made his debut for England in October 2023 and has steadily stepped up his game. He is a modern centre-back who has the ability to defend in wide open spaces, in addition to his accurate passing from his left foot.
Chelsea are also said to be considering selling academy players to avoid breaching financial fair play, with England midfielder Conor Gallagher at the top of the list. At the moment, Colwill is unlikely to be released, but remains one of the candidates.
However, he only signed a new contract last summer and it is clear that the player is looking for further development in London and should have little intention of leaving.
So will Liverpool be able to successfully lure the young gem from Stamford Bridge…?
