Young defender Sepp van den Berg joined Liverpool from Zwolle in 2019, but rarely featured in the first team, spending time on loan at Preston North End and Schalke before spending a year at Mainz this season.

The Dutch centre-back has built a reputation for himself after outstanding performances in the Bundesliga.

Arne Slot’s appointment could give him a chance to show his ability in pre-season, but the 22-year-old defender, who is looking for regular treatment, wants to move on this summer, according to German Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.

“News Sepp van den Berg | The 22 y/o has clearly informed Liverpool that he wants to leave the club this summer. Contract valid until 2026. Now he is waiting for the green light from Liverpool to make the move.”

“He would like to stay in the Bundesliga and has already received many inquiries. Also from the Premier League. Mainz 05 would like to keep him after a very good season with 2940 minutes played.”

“Price valuation: €15m”

He was a regular starter for Mainz from the start of the league season and played 33 Bundesliga games. Although the team did not perform well, finishing 13th, his personal reputation has soared and several clubs, including Mainz, have shown interest.

Liverpool are also looking for someone to fill the shoes of 32-year-old defender Joel Matip, who has left the club, and apart from securing a new centre-back, the defender from Zwolle could join the centre-back ranks.

So what sort of career will Sepp van den Berg have in store for him…?
