In addition to a generational change in their centre-back corps, Liverpool are also looking to secure a left-footed centre-back, something they currently lack in their defensive ranks, and have been in the market for a new centre-back in the summer transfer window, with several targets on the shortlist.
Liverpool were also in the hunt last summer and made contact with Chelsea’s England defender Levi Colwill. However, the player decided to stay in London and pledged his future to the club where he spent his academy years, signing a long-term contract until 2029.
However, over the past year, the 21-year-old defender’s departure has become more hectic as he starts afresh with new manager Enzo Maresca. Liverpool have reportedly made contact once again, while Bayern Munich have also shown interest and are scouting.
According to Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, the German clubs are intensifying their moves for the player, but he revealed that it would be difficult to come up with Chelsea’s asking price, but also hinted at the future, saying he was still unsure if anything would offend.
“Bayern have inquired about Levi Colwill in the last weeks as they also have gathered information about a potential transfer this summer.”
“At this stage, Chelsea won’t let him go. But understand, Colwill would be open to join Bayern as soon as Bayern’s interest becomes concrete.”
“However, the potential transfer fees are currently far too high for Bayern, which is why the pursuit has currently gone cold.”
“But Colwill remains on the shortlist of Bayern. Early stage of the window, no agreement with Leverkusen about Tah yet. A lot can still happen.”
