At just 18 years of age, France U-23 defender Leny Yoro, who has made 60 appearances for LOSC Lille, was the subject of interest from four clubs this summer – Liverpool, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
The young centre-back saw a move to Real Madrid as his top priority and was expected to decide to go to Spain next summer, when his current contract expires. However, things have changed quickly and a move to Manchester United is almost certain.
Fabrizio Romano, referring to the transfer drama, revealed that Liverpool felt Leny Yoro’s firm intention and were not serious about acquiring him, but said that Manchester United had made an expensive offer and there was a strong push from the Lille chairman who could not refuse it.
“Liverpool considered Leny Yoro as a target this summer and they also made contact with the agents of the player,”
“But the feeling from Liverpool has always been that Yoro was going to be a Real Madrid player. So, Liverpool never had the feeling that it was possible to convince Leny Yoro. “
“Manchester United presented an incredible proposal. The feeling is that another crucial part of the story and part of the winning strategy for Manchester United was to present such a big proposal to Lille.”
“The president of Lille, Olivier Letang, in the last seven days spent a lot of time talking directly to Leny Yoro, he has a very good relationship with Leny Yoro who is obviously a talent coming up from Lille, and told him several times go to Manchester United, trying every single way to convince the player to go to Manchester United.”

The club finished eighth in the Premier League last season and, like every year, are prepared to spend big money in the transfer market this summer. The centre-back, who could be a key player for the next ten years if he develops well, is a good buy minus the player’s value at the moment.
In addition to a total transfer fee of €62 million, the 18-year-old defender will receive a high salary of around £145,000 per week.
There was no way Liverpool could make this much of a power play, and Real Madrid saw it as a price to throw at a player who had yet to prove himself, and were looking to acquire him next summer.
Liverpool wanted to move to Anfield and their reinforcement policy is to get the right price. This deal was a long shot in the first place, but the fact remains that a new centre-back is needed.
