Born in Liverpool and raised in the academy from an early age, England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has developed into a world-class right-back under Jurgen Klopp’s regime.
In recent years, he has also expanded his game as a false back and is increasingly used in midfield for the national team.
He is a local player for Liverpool and a future captain candidate, and we would like him to play at Anfield throughout his career, but his departure is uncertain. With his contract running until June 2025, Real Madrid are considering a free transfer next summer.
The vice-captain is torn between a move to Spain, but according to Ian Doyle of the Liverpool ECHO, his future will be determined in the coming weeks, when he is expected to hold talks with new manager Arne Slott and other leaders.
“The next few weeks will be pivotal in mapping out Alexander-Arnold’s future. Talks will be held with Hughes and the Anfield hierarchy over the offer of a new deal, but just as important will be the vision mapped out by new boss Arne Slot regards tactics, recruitment and the player’s own long-term position.”
“Regardless of what happens, questions must be asked of Liverpool as to why the Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation has been allowed to get to this point. Yes, there has been the significant overhaul behind the scenes that has taken obvious priority over the last eight months.”
“And, with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah in a similar position, Alexander-Arnold isn’t the only current squad member whose future needs urgently addressing.”
For Liverpool, the renewal of contracts with three players, including Alexander-Arnold, may be more important than the addition of new players.
New sporting director Richard Hughes and new manager Slot will be faced with a difficult task, but will they be able to achieve ideal results for the new season…?
