Arne Slot has a positive impact...Trent Alexander-Arnold is determined to stay at Liverpool Team

Trent Alexander-Arnold, a right-back from his native Liverpool, emerged like a comet under Jurgen Klopp. His long-range passes from his right foot broke the deadlock and he was involved in a number of goal-scoring situations alongside the more destructive attackers.

Although he has long been criticised for his slackness in defence, his attacking ability cannot be left in reserve and he has been used in more and more games as a false flanker or defensive midfielder. With rumours of a midfield challenge at club level, the latest buzz is interest from Real Madrid.

With less than a year remaining on his current contract, which runs until June 2025, talks will take place this summer, including with the leaders. Liverpool are expected to offer the player a long-term deal, but there is also keen interest from Spanish clubs looking to land the player on a free transfer next summer.

According to The Mirror, the England defender, who has been heavily linked with last year’s Champions League champions, has made a positive impression in talks with new manager Arne Slot and has decided to compete under his second first team manager.

If the reports are true, this is great news not only for Liverpool but also for all concerned. The defender, who has made a total of 310 appearances at Anfield, scoring 19 goals and providing 81 assists, figures that are not seen in a side-back, is an indispensable part of the Slot regime.

Nevertheless, until he signs a new contract, there is no reason to be optimistic. We await the day when Liverpool and their 25-year-old vice-captain sign a new contract.
