Liverpool check out Genoa midfielder Morten Frendrup while Aston Villa also interested Transfers

Liverpool acquired four new midfielders last summer following the mass departure of veteran midfielders. Argentinian midfielder Alexis Mac Allister was particularly impressive, while Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo also contributed to the team’s victories in the first and second halves of the season respectively.

Liverpool have an array of attacking midfielders, but the age balance of defensive midfielders who can handle the bottom of midfield is not in place. The national team midfielder is now 31 years old, while 19-year-old midfielder Stefan Bajcetic still lacks experience at the top level.

According to Tutto Mercato, Genoa midfielder Morten Frendrup, who has been in the rumour mill all season, has surfaced once again and Liverpool are investigating his movements. Aston Villa are also interested.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who moved to Italy from Brøndby IF in the summer of 2022, has made a total of 89 appearances for the club and has evolved into an integral part of the team. He only missed one game last season due to a suspension for a cumulative caution and started almost every game in Serie A.

Clubs looking to sign him will have to offer a transfer fee of around €25 million, a sum that Premier League sides will have no problem paying. He has yet to be called up to the Danish national team, but a call-up soon would not be out of the question.

With at least two players on the books, such as the rejected offer from Marseille for Japan midfielder Wataru Endo, and the former Brighton midfielder’s ability to play at the bottom of midfield, it is hard to see them allocating money to a position that is not a priority for reinforcements.

Will the day ever come when the transfer reports, which have been reported mainly in the Italian press, come to fruition…?
