Anthony Gordon, a 23-year-old forward, was brought to Newcastle in the winter of 2023 after emerging with a total of seven goals and eight assists in 78 games for Liverpool’s rival club Everton.
Last season was his breakthrough year, with impressive figures of 12 goals and 11 assists in 48 games, and he was called up to the England squad for EURO 2024.
During the tournament, talks were held with Newcastle over the sale of the player, who needed to release him to avoid breaching the Premier League’s ‘profitability and sustainability rules’ (PSR). Negotiations broke down due to an overpriced transfer fee.
However, Liverpool’s interest has not run out. Fabrizio Romano, an expert on the transfer market, said that the club is keeping a close eye on the England international in case they decide to make a move for the attacking player.
