English journalist confirms Liverpool are looking at England's 20-year-old midfielder Adam Wharton Transfers

Liverpool were said to be targeting a new centre-back to replace Virgil van Dijk, in addition to an attacker who could replace Egyptian international Mohamed Salah, but recently interest in the defensive midfielder has reached fever pitch.

Liverpool have turned down an offer for Japan midfielder Wataru Endo, but manager Arne Slot is also reportedly looking for a player at the bottom of midfield who is better at passing the ball than winning it, raising the possibility of a new midfielder.

According to David Lynch (English journalist), Liverpool are eyeing 20-year-old midfielder Adam Wharton, who was a big hit in his first six months at Crystal Palace and was selected for England at EURO 2024 and has been a favourite since his time at Blackburn.

“Adam Wharton is definitely someone Liverpool have watched,”

“They’ve liked him in the past.”

Born ‘n Red

He grew up in Blackburn’s academy and made a total of 51 appearances for the club. After showing high potential in the Championship, he was brought to Crystal Palace in February 2024. Upon joining the club, he quickly established himself in the starting line-up and made 16 Premier League appearances last season.

He made a number of high-precision passes from his left foot and set up the team’s attacks from midfield. He is also second to none when it comes to defending against the opposition, and while winning the ball is not his greatest strength, he has no problem defending to stop the opposition’s attacks.

There is almost no chance of the player moving on this summer, as he has only just joined the team and is under contract until June 2029. The Englishman’s premier price is also on board and a huge transfer fee is expected to be demanded, and Liverpool should not have that much money to spend.

Will there ever be a future for the young midfielder at Anfield one day…?
