Liverpool have been rumoured to be interested in various players since the beginning of the season, but have not acquired any regular players at the moment.
There is a strong impression that new manager Arne Slot has been given time to assess his players, but he has been left behind while other rival clubs have been reinforcing, and some supporters have voiced their discontent.
However, it is looking increasingly likely that Liverpool will finally make a move. According to The Independent’s Miguel Delany, the move towards reinforcements will begin next week, reflecting Slott’s understanding of what the team needs, he wrote.
“If the squad have now had the chance to get a feel for their new boss, their new boss has had more than enough time to get a feel for the squad. In short, Slot now has more of a handle on what he wants, and what he needs.”
“The belief around the Liverpool camp is that transfer business will finally accelerate next week, as the opening Premier League game away to Ipswich Town on 18 August comes into view. The next 10 days are likely to see the first concrete bids put in,”
“Liverpool are now looking for a centre-half, a defensive midfielder and a wide forward, although potentially two of the latter. The most high-profile of those is Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon, who has long been hugely keen on the move.”
Liverpool were initially said to be targeting a defender who could replace Virgil van Dijk, in addition to a potential successor to Egyptian international Mohamed Salah, but recently there has been increased interest in a midfielder who could take charge at the bottom of midfield.
What players will Arne Slot and other leaders and Richard Hughes approach to strengthen the squad as they conduct various tests in pre-season ahead of the new season? And will good news arrive in the near future…?
