Instead of Marc Guéhi, Liverpool consider signing Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen Transfers

Veteran former Cameroon defender Joel Matip left Liverpool at the end of last season. With Virgil van Dijk also the same age, 33, Liverpool are looking to secure a new centre-back in this summer’s transfer window.

With 22-year-old defender Sepp van den Berg performing well in pre-season, there is not as much urgency as at first, but the Dutch defender is also considering a move in search of a regular role and anything can happen in the remaining half of the transfer market.

According to TeamTalk, Liverpool have listed Danish defender Joachim Andersen from Crystal Palace and are considering whether to move for him. He has made more than 100 Premier League appearances, including at his current club and at his previous club, Fulham.

The player reminds me of Uruguayan international Darwin Nunez’s debut at Anfield. Frustrated by the persistent marking, the former Benfica player was sent off with a single red card after a head butt.

The 28-year-old centre-back, with his experienced positioning and accurate long feeds, should not be a target for Liverpool due to his age. They are looking for a potential medium- to long-term successor and are not looking for short-term backup.

Fellow defender Marc Guéhi, who Liverpool were also said to be interested in, has been linked with a move to Newcastle, so he would have to avoid losing two mainstays of his final line at once, and a move would have to be one or the other.

In any case, there is almost no chance of the Danish defender moving to Anfield. We would like to believe that they will get a younger, left-handed centre-back.
