Manager Arne Slot is looking for a highly technical defensive midfielder to replace Japan midfielder Wataru Endo, who is excellent at winning the ball. While various names have been circulating in the media, Liverpool are doing their best to persuade Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who currently plays for Real Sociedad.
The club’s manager, Imanol Alguacil, is also said to be seeking to retain the 25-year-old midfielder, with discussions taking place between the two clubs. Liverpool are on the offensive at once, with the new season looming, in order to finalise a deal as soon as possible.
According to GIVEMESPORT, Zubimendi’s feelings are leaning towards Anfield. It also reports that the new Slot project is the deciding factor and that Liverpool are prepared to pay the amount set in the release clause of his contract.
Last season, he made 45 appearances throughout La Liga and the Champions League, scoring four goals and assisting one, helping the club to a sixth-place finish in the domestic league.
He was also selected for Spain’s national team at EURO 2204 this summer and was part of the national team’s winning squad, although he made many appearances during the tournament.
He has proved that he can play on the European stage and is at the right age to take on new challenges. The Premier League is very different from Spain, but he has the potential to show what he can do in England, and could be Liverpool’s first reinforcement of the summer.
Will Liverpool succeed in bringing the midfield maestro over from Real Sociedad?
