Virgil van Dijk has been the absolute leader of the final line in Jurgen Klopp’s regime, moving defenders with precise instructions and stopping opposing attacks with his calmness and high athleticism in one-on-one situations.
The Dutch defender, who has also been team captain since last season, is already a veteran footballer at 33 years of age. With his contract expiring in June 2025, all eyes will be on Liverpool’s moves to renew his contract this summer.
After the friendly match against Sevilla, which they won comfortably with four goals, the 33-year-old centre-back revealed that he is not being offered a new contract at the moment.
He also mentioned the club’s policy of strengthening the squad, which has seen zero reinforcements so far, and said he has faith in Liverpool.
“There is no change at the minute,”
“Obviously, I think we should make some signings based on how long the season will go but I think they are working behind the scenes and I’m fully convinced, and trust the club, that they will do the right thing for us and get the best possible squad to compete in every competition.”
