Bobby Clark, a 19-year-old midfielder who made 14 appearances throughout the Premier League and cup competitions during the Jurgen Klopp era, joined from Newcastle in August 2021, his potential was highly rated and he seemed to be the next generation of Liverpool midfielders.
However, under new manager Arne Slot, he is no longer treated as he used to be. Championship clubs such as Norwich City, Leeds United, Sheffield United and Coventry City were trying to acquire him on loan, while Red Bull Salzburg were moving for a full transfer.
The Austrian club made several offers in an attempt to seal the transfer, with offers of £6 million and £8.2 million failing to convince Liverpool, but they couldn’t help but shake their heads at the £10 million sum and accepted the offer.
According to Paul Joyce of The Times, the £10 million transfer fee is accompanied by a 17.5% sell-on clause, meaning that Liverpool will receive the same percentage amount when RB Salzburg sell to another club in the future.
The player, who is under contract until June 2028, will soon travel to Austria to hold discussions to finalise the details of his personal contract, while he undergoes a medical check. As soon as that is agreed, the 19-year-old attacking midfielder will end his three-year spell at Anfield.
Former assistant coach Pepijn Lijnders, who was an assistant coach under Klopp until last season and held the former Newcastle midfielder in high regard, left Anfield alongside the German to start his coaching career in Austria at the helm of Red Bull Salzburg.
The Dutch coach waas keen to bring in a young midfielder and is finally set to welcome a long-awaited player to the team.
