German journalist confirms, Bayern Munich's interest in Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is wide of mark Transfers

England defender Joe Gomez is expected to see limited playing time at centre-back after being beaten in the pecking order by Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah.

This is also the case at right-back and left-back, where he is expected to spend more time on the bench this season.

At 27, the former Charlton defender is also reportedly looking for a move this summer, as he wants to secure a regular position. Premier League sides such as Newcastle and Aston Villa are interested, while Bayern Munich are also rumoured to be eyeing the player.

Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg categorically denies the rumours and says that no Bundesliga club is in the market for the Liverpool defender.

The only player who could be in the running is Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah, who has been interested for some time.

“New rumors about FC Bayern and Joe Gomez are wide of mark!”

“Interesting player, but at this stage and if nothing extraordinary will happen it’s either Jonathan Tah on that position or nothing until Deadline Day.”

A 27-year-old defender who is a rare find who can operate as a left or right back, centre-back and sometimes as a defensive midfielder, he has made a total of 224 appearances for Anfield since joining in 2015 and has been on the pitch for 36 games in the Champions League’s biggest competitions.

The England defender is capable of competing for a starting place at a number of English clubs, and his departure will be closely watched as the transfer window closes.
