Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg became a popular name this summer after his great success at Mainz last season. Apart from Mainz, Stuttgart, Hoffenheim, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Monchengladbach, Wolfsburg and PSV Eindhoven were all interested in acquiring him.
However, as clubs began to switch to other targets ahead of Liverpool’s asking price, Bayer Leverkusen and Brentford reached inter-club agreements for a total of £25 million and £30 million respectively, leaving the final decision to the players.
And with the transfer deadline looming, the Dutch centre-back appears to have made a final decision. According to BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella, his choice is Brentford, with negotiations to be concluded within 24 hours at the earliest.
“Van den Berg has chosen Brentford and the deal is expected to be finalised in the next 24 hours. Not done yet but Brentford can be confident and he is at the training ground ahead of a final agreement.”

The 22-year-old centre-back, who has played for a different team every year in recent years and has wanted to move to a club where he can be a regular contender since pre-season, will soon get the move of his dreams.
Whether he can make it in the Premier League is down to the player himself, but he has performed well on tours in the US and elsewhere, and should be able to contain opposition attacks on the final line in one of the world’s top leagues.
