After Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi decided to stay at Real Sociedad, Liverpool are close to securing a replacement for Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who is not a midfield, centre-back or attacker.
That player is Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, a 23-year-old young goalkeeper who earned a reputation for representing Georgia at EURO 2024, is open to a move to Liverpool, which is expected to be completed as soon as an agreement between the clubs is completed.
Regarding the interest from Liverpool, the current defender said that the club had spoken to him before the Georgia goalkeeper’s name surfaced on social media and that he is not at the club forever and that preparing for the future is a good idea.
“I think it was a good idea,”
“I knew about that [Mamardashvili] before it came out on social media and that is a good message for me because the club cares about what I think.”
“The club needs to prepare for the future. We are not going to last forever here, I am getting old. No, for a goalkeeper I am still young, I have a lot of energy and I still have much to give for this club and I want to give to the club as much as I can.”

The 31-year-old goalkeeper has been an absolute guardian this season, reigning at the back of the team. In Anfield’s opening game against Brentford, he contributed to a clean sheet by making a save to prevent a decisive goal.
The veteran goalkeeper, who is known for his stability, passing from behind and long feeds, has a history of being targeted by Saudi Arabia for acquisition, and it remains to be seen whether he will stay at Anfield for a long time to come.
As a supporter, I would like to see him in the long term, but will there be fierce competition for regular places as early as next season…?
