Italian international Federico Chiesa was looking for a new home after being ruled out of the squad by new manager Thiago Motta. He had an impressive performance at the last two EUROs and was recognised as one of the best wingers in the world, but since then his reputation had been declining due to a series of injuries.
With one year remaining on his contract with his club, Juventus were prepared to accept a transfer for €15 million.
With Barcelona reportedly a strong destination after failing to land Spanish international Nico Williams, Liverpool have closed the gap on the financially struggling Spanish club and sealed a deal that could turn out to be a bargain.
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, referring to the former Fiorentina winger’s move to Anfield, praised Liverpool’s move, saying that the transfer deal was ‘a real bargain’.
“The Chiesa deal came pretty much out of the blue because we thought that Barcelona were going to fight for him. But any deal that Barcelona seem to go in for, it’s always been caveated with, well, they can’t actually do it, because they’re still trying to register players.”
“So, it was always going to be a difficult one for Barcelona to do, and Liverpool have have snuck in and got what looks like an incredible deal, because it’s only a £10 million initial payment, which will rise to about £12.5 million, depending on conditions. So, it seems like a real no brainer for a player not so long ago, pre-injury admittedly, you know, would have fetched around £60 to £80 million pounds.”

The Italian winger will probably be used more as a backup to Egyptian international Mohamed Salah, but if he is fit, he could also compete in the left wing position with Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo.
He has the potential to be a full season’s worth of player, although he must first cure his recent injury habits, but can he make a fresh start in the Premier League…?
