The departure of Egyptian international Mohamed Salah, whose current contract expires next June, has been hectic. In addition to the looming deadline for expiry, he has been at the centre of the conversation after insinuating after the Manchester United game that it could be his last season.

He has racked up a number of goals at Anfield, breaking the records of legends such as Steven Gerrard and Robbie Fowler. Ian Rush, the all-time leading goalscorer, is a long way off, but if he spends a few more years, he can dream of breaking into the top three.

To do so, however, he will have to stay at Liverpool. The Liverpool Echo assumes that they have heard from a number of sources, and that the Egyptian King is keen to continue playing at Anfield.

Furthermore, not only he himself, but also his family love life at Liverpool, his two daughters have spent a lot of time in the north-west of England and the people surrounding the player are more interested in continuing with his current lifestyle than a move to Saudi Arabia.

A potential problem in the negotiations is the gap between Liverpool’s expected contract length and salary and the conditions the player is seeking. The former Roma midfielder is already the highest paid player in the team, and given his age, it is unlikely that he will be offered a higher salary, and in fact, a reduction in salary is a possibility.

Will Liverpool and Salah be able to reach a mutually satisfactory end point, or will he leave at the end of his contract?
