Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher was offered by Nottingham Forest for the 2023/24 season. At Liverpool, he has been a reserve for Alisson Becker, and at the age of 25, he has only played ‘47’ games.
Despite interest from several clubs this summer, he has not left Anfield, partly due to a lack of offers to match Liverpool’s asking transfer fee.
Meanwhile, they have acquired Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, who is expected to leave the club next summer.The 25-year-old goalkeeper has been honest about his treatment at Liverpool over the past few years.
He revealed that he had always told the club that he wanted to move to another club and become a regular and was unhappy with the decision taken by the Merseyside club.
“I made it clear in the last few years that I want to go somewhere and be a number one,”
“The club has made that decision to get a goalkeeper (Mamardashvili) which makes it look like they’ve made a decision to go another direction.”
“Liverpool have rejected a few bids as well. It’s not always in my hands to fully make the decision. My ambition is clear. I’m good enough & I want to go and play week in, week out.”
In cup matches and other goalmouth games, he has a high level of ability required of a modern goalkeeper, with excellent shot stopping, calm ball judgment and build-up from the back, and should be able to secure a place in the starting line-up for many Premier League clubs.
He is now in his mid-20s in age and as a player it is natural that he wants to play every week. He can no longer learn from the bench and only his performance on the pitch will bring further development. A result in a game will secure his place in the Irish national team.
