A world-class goalkeeper emerged at the same time in the Brazilian national team. Alisson Becker, a 31-year-old goalkeeper, is Liverpool’s absolute guardian.
Both 31-year-old goalkeeper Ederson, whose passing rivals that of field players at Manchester City, are competing in the world’s most prestigious leagues.
Although they have different styles of play, both are modern goalkeepers and excel at clearing and passing forward. They combine top-level ability in all aspects of the game, including accurate punt kicking, shot stopping and one-on-one handling.
Although Alisson has made more appearances for Brazil, the argument comparing the two goalkeepers has not disappeared.
Former England goalkeeper Ben Foster, who played for Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion, voted for the City defender, although he acknowledged that both are excellent players.
“They’re different. This is the beauty of it,”
“There’s nobody who could do a better job for Man City than Ederson.”
“There’s nobody, I don’t think, who could do a better job for Liverpool than Alisson! I’ll go Ederson.”

Both are reliable goal-mouth talents, and the only criterion for selection is preference. City and Liverpool have been in a fierce battle for the top spot in the Premier League in recent years, and both have plenty of experience of playing on the big stage, making it hard to choose between the two.
Until one of the players retires from the national team, there will be no end to this debate. But as a Liverpool supporter, I still believe that Alisson Becker is the world No.1 and deserves to be the regular Brazilian national team defender.
