Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has been repositioned as a defensive midfielder by manager Arne Slot. He has been impressive since the start of the Premier League season and continues to play a major role in the midfield, both offensively and defensively.
His partner in midfield is Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, who has been a steady and consistent midfield partner since last season, and the 25-year-old World Cup-winning midfielder said he is looking forward to playing with the 22-year-old tall midfielder and that he is an important player for him.
“We try to adapt to how they [the opponent] play as well, but I’m very lucky, I have to say, because Ryan is a fantastic player.”
“When you play with good players, everything is easier. I’m very happy that he is doing well, and I think everyone can see that and see how important Ryan is for our team.”
“It’s nice to play alongside him, we are trying to still adapt and learn from each other, so I really enjoy it.”

Under Jurgen Klopp, he was used as an inside half. He often received the ball in a more forward position. However, he was never completely into it, and he is not the type of player who is good at pressing from the front.
When he dropped down a position and changed to a role where he could build from the back, his talent blossomed at once. He can also use his lengthy legs to intercept high presses and carry the ball forward.
It fits his character perfectly, and if he can continue to perform as well as he has throughout the season, he could establish himself as one of the best defensive midfielders not only in the Premier League, but also in the world.
