21-year-old defender Jarell Quansah is close to agreeing a new contract with Liverpool ‘including a salary increase’ Career

After impressive performances in pre-season before last season, England U-21 defender Jarell Quansah had a breakthrough season, starting 34 games on the pitch in Jurgen Klopp’s final season.

He has also won the trust of the Arne Slot regime and started the opening game of the Premier League season. However, he was replaced at half-time by the Dutch coach, who was concerned about his duel-winning rate, and has since handed the starting berth to French defender Ibrahima Konate.

In a long, tough season, chances come around, especially in cup competitions. The key will be whether he can convince his manager at the right time, but Liverpool are preparing to sign a new contract with the young centre-back, and according to Fabrizio Romano, they are close to an agreement.

“Liverpool are closing in on the agreement to extend Jarrel Quansah contract, new deal with pay rise ready.”

“Quansah has already accepted to stay.”

He is a calm and composed player who is hardly in his early twenties, and supports the final line with a steady and consistent style of play.

He also has the passing and long feeds required of a modern centre-back, and is expected to follow in the footsteps of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones as a player from the academy.

Will the young centre-back, who is also expected to evolve into a defensive leader to replace Virgil van Dijk, go on to sign a new contract on a smooth track…?
