Along with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, Real Madrid are targeting a free transfer for England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract with Liverpool is up until June 2025.
The media, mainly from the Spanish side, are reporting that he is going to the Santiago Bernabeu due to his good relationship with England international and colleague Jude Bellingham. On the other hand, there are also reports that the player’s priority is to stay at Liverpool, and the truth will be revealed once a deal is finalised or a deal is broken.
According to Todo Fichajes, Liverpool are preparing for the departure of the 26-year-old defender and have approached Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries, who is within a year of a deal with Inter Milan, to take his place.
The 28-year-old side-back, who moved to Italy from PSV Eindhoven in August 2021, has made his presence felt both offensively and defensively with his intense up-and-down movement.
He has not been an absolute regular since the start of the season, making many appearances midway through the season, and with his contract expiring in June 2025, there are dark clouds over the signing of a new deal.
He is an experienced defender on the international stage, having made 60 appearances for the Dutch national team, but his style of play is different from Alexander-Arnold’s. It would be difficult to find a player who plays like Liverpool’s vice-captain in the first place, but a change in style of play for the team as a whole is inevitable.
