Former England midfielder Jordan Henderson, a Champions League and Premier League trophy winner, moved to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ettifaq in the summer of 2023, despite Jurgen Klopp’s efforts to persuade him not to.
However, he wanted to leave after only six months due to various factors, including a different environment, and sought a new home with Dutch side Ajax. His new team has had a difficult time with poor results and has not won as many points as expected this season.
He has not been an absolute force at Ajax either, and after five games he has started only two games. Old club Sunderland may be the salvation for the 34-year-old midfielder, who has had a disappointing time since leaving Liverpool.
According to Football Insider, the northern English club are plotting to lure him away from the Dutch club and are preparing to sign him on a short-term, six-month deal. In addition, he has an option to extend his contract for one year, depending on his performance.
Ajax are willing to let the veteran midfielder go, and if they can come to terms on a transfer fee, they are more likely to fight in the Championship.
