Liverpool have recently acquired a number of promising young players, mainly from the UK, in order to strengthen their academy.Last year, 17-year-old midfielder Trey Nyoni joined from Leicester City.
This summer they also welcomed 16-year-old winger Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea and 17-year-old defender Alvin Ayman from Wolves.
Academy players such as Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah, as well as Harvey Elliott and Connor Bradley, have made their mark in the first team. They are expected to grab a regular place in the team in the next few years and perform to lead the team to the title.
According to The Independent., Liverpool are looking at new young talent. The target is 18-year-old defender Josh Acheampong from Chelsea U-21s, with Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain also showing interest.
The right-back, who has played for England U-18s, can also play as a centre-back and, despite being a teenager, came off the bench in four Premier League games last season, including a debut in a home game against Tottenham.
He brings chances from the right flank by attacking the opposition’s defensive network with a calm defensive response and using his long arms and legs to lift the ball. Although he still has a thin line, he has a fine technique and is accurate with his crosses and passes.
He could be a regular in the England squad in the future, but with Chelsea having so many players in the first team, it may be difficult for him to get a chance. He has the option of spending a few years on loan, but a season at a club without a contract is something of a burden.
Having never sat on the first-team bench since Enzo Maresca took over as manager, will the young defender, who is contracted to the London club until June 2026, leave Stamford Bridge for a new challenge at his new club…?
