Liverpool, who are top of the Premier League and Champions League table, are entering a crucial phase of the season as they enter a period of fatigue and injuries from the start of the season. Manager Arne Slot may ask his senior management team to invest heavily to ensure the second half of the season remains strong.
The Merseyside club have only acquired Italian international Federico Chiesa in attack, with the players inherited from former manager Jurgen Klopp providing the backbone. Not only the scoring, but also the defence has stabilised, with only six goals conceded so far in the domestic league.
The defensive midfielder continues to be seen as a top target, but with Mohamed Salah’s departure uncertain and Chiesa’s continued poor condition, Liverpool are also looking at new attackers.
According to Caught Offside, US international Ricardo Pepi, who plays for PSV Eindhoven, has emerged as a potential acquisition, and a move could be made this winter for the 21-year-old attacker, who would require a €25 million transfer fee.
The player, who sought a new home in the Netherlands from Augsburg in the summer of 2023, has scored seven goals in 16 games this season. He plays as a centre-forward in close proximity to the opposition goal and, despite being 21 years old, has already played 31 games for the US national team, scoring 11 goals.
With interest in a number of other attackers, including Egyptian international Omar Marmoush, and an adequate forward line-up, it is unlikely that any moves will be made in this winter transfer window.
Uruguayan international Darwin Nunez is also starting to get on board at centre-forward and is unlikely to be given up here.
At the moment, it seems unlikely that the US national team attacker will arrive at Anfield, but what will happen…?
