With Virgil van Dijk turning 34 next year, Liverpool are looking to secure a new defender. Although every possible centre-back has been reported as a target since the middle of last season, no one was brought in during this summer’s transfer window.
However, Liverpool’s interest in centre-backs has not waned since then, with a number of media outlets reporting interest in Brazilian defender Murillo, who leads a strong Nottingham Forest final line.
According to Football Insider, Nottingham Forest will demand at least £70 million from any club looking to acquire the player. It also reports interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The 22-year-old centre-back, who has been in the Premier League since last season, has been a regular starter since the start of the season. The team also got off to a good start and continued to perform well at Anfield, also putting dirt on Liverpool.
He is a modern centre-back and, like Van Dijk, can play on the left side of the centre-back line, as he is left-footed. Despite his short stature, he is also good at defending against opponents.
He is unlikely to replace the Dutch national team defender out of the blue, but with a few more years he may be able to move up to a similar position.
Will the defender, who has won plaudits on the Premier League stage, be on the move to another club next year…?
