They have top-level centre-forwards in Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez, and a strong group of wingers in the team, including Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa.
While reinforcing new forwards is not Liverpool’s top priority, it is also a fact that they have to secure a replacement in case the veteran Egyptian winger leaves without a contract extension.
According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool are interested in French international Marcus Thuram, who plays for Inter Milan. The player’s performances have caught the eye of manager Arne Slott, who has approached the scouting team to review reports.
The 27-year-old striker, who sought a new home in Italy last summer from Borussia Monchengladbach, has been a key player in the team since his first season with the club. He scored 15 goals and provided 14 assists in 46 games last season and was a key player in the Serie A conquest.
He has continued his scoring form this season and has also featured in 29 games for the talented French national team. His style of play makes use of his large physique and he is confident in physical battles with centre-backs, not to mention his decisiveness in front of goal.
He has evolved into a world-class forward on Italian soil, but with a reported £70 million release clause in place, it is hard to imagine the Merseyside club bringing in a new talent in exchange for a lot of money for a centre-forward of such limited importance.
Will the Parma striker continue to play in Serie A, or is there a future for him in England?
