Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister joined Liverpool from Brighton last season and has been a regular and hugely successful player in his first season.

He has also been a mainstay under new manager Arne Slot and has already been on the pitch for more than 20 games.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who has been playing a little lower down with Ryan Gravenberch instead of at inside half this season, has had to juggle long travel times with national team competition. Although he looked tired in the early games, he is gradually getting better.

He is part of Liverpool’s long-term project, but he refers to Egyptian international Mohamed Salah, whose contract is about to expire.

While he said that it is a personal matter whether he signs a new contract or not, he revealed the effort that Egyptian King shows every day in training.

“I think that shows a little bit of who Mo is, his mentality,”

“When you see him every day, he’s a person who works very hard, who is tireless.”

“He’s the first to arrive and the last to leave. Always prepared for whatever may come.”

“He carries that to the pitch and he always helps us in decisive moments when big players get tougher, he’s there. That makes us all glad,”

“Obviously we want to share a lot of years with him, but that’s a personal decision. The club has to make a decision and we can’t get involved.”

“Hopefully they can come to an agreement because we want him and Virgil and Trent to continue with us. Hopefully, that will be the case.”

The 32-year-old right winger, who has saved his team this season with a decisive goal, has repeatedly said he wants to stay at Liverpool. The aim would be to approach the club, including his agent, but they have yet to agree terms and the Saudis are eyeing him up for a free transfer.

It would be a big blow to let go a great striker without a transfer fee, but what will happen to the veteran winger, who has impressed even the Argentine midfielder…?
