‘I need to score more goals’ Curtis Jones aims to step up his game at Liverpool Career

Born in his hometown of Liverpool, he joined the academy at an early age. After a successful rise through the under-category, 23-year-old midfielder Curtis Jones was promoted to the first team under former manager Jurgen Klopp, and made his long-awaited debut for England in November 2024.

Under the guidance of Arne Slot, his performances have looked even more improved and he has scored two goals and provided four assists in 17 games across the Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who has also been used as an attacking midfielder and in a lower midfield position this season, is hungry to step up his game. He spoke about his future, saying he wants to score more goals and assists and become a key player in the team.

“I’ve always been a lad who wants to score goals, assist and help the team,”

“Then you come around the first team and understand how hard it is to actually score.”

“I’ve always had the thing in my head, ‘I need to get in the box more, I need to score more goals, I need to assist more, I need to help the whole team.”

“I’ve played 150 games – it’s a lot of games. I’m not a kid anymore, I’m experienced and I think if I want to take the next step again now I have to start scoring more goals and becoming a big part of the team. That comes down to goals and assists.”

With his abundant athleticism, he made England midfielder Cole Palmer work for him against Chelsea and has recently started to show more aggressiveness in his play, with more opportunities to run at goal. He has evolved a lot since last season and is now an integral part of the team.

However, his rivals are also strong and he is not in an environment where he can easily start.

Can Jones do what he says, score more goals and assists, and become the absolute starter that the coaches and supporters want him to be…?
