England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is entering the final year of his contract with Liverpool and is torn between staying at Real Madrid or Anfield. A local native, he is attached to the team he grew up with as a child, but also dreams of a new challenge.
Despite being a right-back, he has been producing assists with quality passes. Since Arne Slot took over as manager, his positioning when defending has improved, he is no longer easily overtaken in defence than last year, and he has gained development as a player.
Liverpool have made a smooth transition to a new regime since the departure of Jurgen Klopp, who took charge of the first team after bringing them up from the academy.
On the team’s consistent results so far, the 26-year-old side-back revealed that not dwelling too much on the past has helped the transition.
“Yeah, I think probably one of the reasons why it’s gone so smooth is that no one’s really tried to fixate on what we were. It was more: ‘we’re something new; we’re a new organism now’. Everything’s changed. You don’t really look back in the past and think, well, this is how we have done this.”
“This is how we did that. This is the manager’s new way, and you roll with it and you get behind it and you get used to it. That’s what we’ve done as a team from day one, to be honest.”
“We never so much spoke about it as a team, but it was the senior players in the team that send the message and set the tone of how it’s going to be. So the fact that we all bought into it straightaway meant that everyone had to. I think that’s something that may have helped the transition as well.”
