Egyptian international Mohamed Salah is also approaching veteran status, and even if he remains at Anfield for the transition next season, a successor to the rare scorer must be secured. Italian international Federico Chiesa was added last summer, but has failed to produce in the Premier League and there are whispers of a return to his homeland.

A variety of targets have been mentioned in the media, including left-handed right wingers, ideally in their early 20s in age, but not limited to left or right. Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumoo, Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo and Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens are also on the list.

According to international media outlet CaughtOffside, Liverpool are also interested in a surprise player, and their target is Barcelona’s Brazilian forward Raphinha. The former Leeds United player is enjoying the best days of his career this season.

He has 27 goals and 19 assists in 41 games across La Liga and the Champions League, and if he can become champion of Spain and Europe, he could be in contention for the Ballon d’Or. He is one of the leaders of Barcelona’s attack, which often wins games with a lot of goals.

In the Premier League, his main position was right wing, but he has expanded his game by playing in other positions, such as left wing and attacking midfield. Although he has looked over-qualified this season, his threat in front of goal has certainly improved under the guidance of manager Hansi Fricke.

However, at 28 years of age, he is not a realistic target for Merseyside clubs to list, as he has until June 2027 left on his contract and is likely to demand a hefty transfer fee.

It is unlikely that the Brazilian winger would ever return to England again, but what’s going to be…!
