Liverpool seeks to sign Dominik Szoboszlai with €70m release clause in his contract Transfers

Liverpool’s midfield “renewal” plan, which began with the signing of Alexis Mac Allister, is temporarily stalled without a second midfielder, as the U-21 European Championship 2023 is being held.

With daily updates on the progress of priority targets such as Khéphren Thuram, Manu Koné, Ryan Gravenberch, Gabri Veiga, and Romeo Lavia, negotiations with the club have not moved forward for a variety of reasons.

And now a new candidate name has surfaced. According to The Athletic, Liverpool have made contact with Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboslai’s agent this week and are exploring the possibility of bringing him in from RB Leipzig.

The player’s contract has a release clause of €70million. However, the clause expires on June 30 of this year, and if Liverpool is serious about landing the player and has the budget to do so, they will have to act now.

The Hungarian prodigy has been the subject of interest from clubs all over Europe since his days at RB Salzburg, and has also secured a regular spot at RB Leipzig.

Last season, he scored 10 goals and provided 13 assists in 46 games, including in the Bundesliga and Champions League.

He has been used in more attacking positions at the club, such as right wing and left wing, and his reputation as a midfielder who can also score continues to grow. 1.87 meters tall, he has a good physique and can dribble forward despite being pushed around by defenders.

He also has excellent technique with his feet, and his versatile passing and shooting from both feet is among the best in the Bundesliga. He can play in a position similar to that of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, who was the subject of interest during the season, and is the first midfielder since former Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho to score in double figures.

A midfielder with defensive strengths like Khéphren Thuram, along with the burgeoning 18-year-old midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, could provide cover for Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, and others.

Will Liverpool decide to wrap up negotiations at once, or will they give up on the Hungarian midfielder?
